In June 08, I was commissioned to design a superlambanana for the Met Quarter Shopping Mall in Liverpool. Petite Fleur joined the flock as part of a mass trail of superlambananas dotted all over the town. This was a great opportunity for me, not only as an artist, but to be part of the 'Capital of Culture' events has been a wonderful experience! The interest in these little Liverpool Icons has been fantastic and people have grown to love them - including me! But they are all to go to new homes when they are auctioned in September.THE AUCTION
On 9th September Petite Fleur along with 69 other SLB's were auctioned at St. Georges Hall in Liverpool.
I attended the auction and had a fantastic experience! it was brilliant to be part of it all! All 70 SLB's were on show to the public outside on St. Georges Plateau and it was an impressive sight to see!
Inside the auction started..Petite Fleur was up first -Lot 1 and It was so exciting to hear the bidding go up from the guide price of £4,000 to finally selling at £8,000! she sold to a lady who ensured me that Petite Fleur was going to a good home in the Albert Dock, (but not sure exactly where yet-but I'll let ya know!) When the night came to a close the total raised was a staggering £550.000! 75% going to the Lord Mayors charity appeal.
The beneficiaries are:·
The Alder Hey Imagine Appeal
The Marina Dalglish Appeal
Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital’s Merseybeat Appeal
Liverpool & S.Sefton Branch, Alzheimer’s Society
