Dot-art is proud to present a Pop-Up Gallery in Liverpool's iconic Cavern Walks. The exhibition features Gary Beach's evocative painterly representations of Liverpool city centre, focusing on the “Beatles Quarter”, the streets around the designer shopping centre. Urban Event at Metquarter Shopping Mall Liverpool
I was commissioned by Metquarter to produce a piece of artwork that I completed on the day of the Urban Event on 4th October. My piece is called 'Ladies who love to shop' it is a collage made up of photographs of ladies shopping at Metquarter, material, paper and jewels. (click on photos below)

Breakthrough Breast Cancer
October 2008 was the Breast Cancer awareness month and I used my artwork to collect for Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity. People donated money and recieved a flower on which they could write a special message. The flowers were then stuck onto the artwork making up the hair (click on photo). We made £300 with thanks to Rayware Ltd and the shoppers at Metquarter Liverpool

GO SUPERLAMBANANAS

In June 08, I was commissioned to design a superlambanana for the Met Quarter Shopping Mall in Liverpool. Petite Fleur joined the flock as part of a mass trail of superlambananas dotted all over the town. This was a great opportunity for me, not only as an artist, but to be part of the 'Capital of Culture' events has been a wonderful experience! The interest in these little Liverpool Icons has been fantastic and people have grown to love them - including me! But they are all to go to new homes when they are auctioned in September.

THE AUCTION
On 9th September Petite Fleur along with 69 other SLB's were auctioned at St. Georges Hall in Liverpool.
I attended the auction and had a fantastic experience! it was brilliant to be part of it all! All 70 SLB's were on show to the public outside on St. Georges Plateau and it was an impressive sight to see!
Inside the auction started..Petite Fleur was up first -Lot 1 and It was so exciting to hear the bidding go up from the guide price of £4,000 to finally selling at £8,000! she sold to a lady who ensured me that Petite Fleur was going to a good home in the Albert Dock, (but not sure exactly where yet-but I'll let ya know!) When the night came to a close the total raised was a staggering £550.000! 75% going to the Lord Mayors charity appeal.

The beneficiaries are:·
The Alder Hey Imagine Appeal
The Marina Dalglish Appeal
Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital’s Merseybeat Appeal
Liverpool & S.Sefton Branch, Alzheimer’s Society

IN MEMORY OF MY DAD..

http://www.helene-mariegilmour.co.uk/

I would like to dedicate my Website to my Dad, Colin Gilmour, who suddenly passed away on New Years Day 2007 age 61.
The reason I want to do this, is that I know how proud he would of been to see my website and the projects Ive been involved in - he would of loved my Superlambanana- Petite Fleur! I also would like people to know abit about the man from whom I get my motivation, patience and dedication to carry on pursuing my art...

let me tell you abit about him..
He started his working life as a coal miner until, like many others,Cronton Colliery in Liverpool shut down in the 80's. He then worked as a black cab driver for a long time and made a whole network of friends around Town!
Alongside this, his life long passion for boats gave him the reputation of being a 'brilliant sailer and navigator'and he worked on fishing trawlers for a while, eventually buying his own trawler! He had quite afew boats over the years and I had the experience of being in a 'Nobby' race with him and sailing with all the ships and boats at the Liverpool river festival which was amazing!. My brother went on many sailing trips with him to Ireland and The Isle of Mann but I wasn't that adventurous! In later life after getting the experience and knowledge he needed, he started his own Auto Electrics business specialising in black cabs and again he gained the reputation around town as being the best in the trade!
My Dad had so many interests outside of work too, whether it was magic tricks, drumming in jazz bands, caravaning, sailing or rock climbing... he always gave 100% ! and there was so much more he wanted to do..which made me realise, that life really is short...and even if I don't get to do as much as him in my lifetime.. I'll have a bloody good go.. Cheers Dad! : )x
